Luau |
|
Luau Tuesday night we went to a Luau. It was great fun. The featured dish was the Kalua pig. The pig is cooked underground for 24 hours. It is wrapped in banana leaves so it doesn't burn or get dirty. The luau features hula dancing, Hawaiian music, other entertainments and of course dinner and drinks. The night starts out with the hula guy blowing into the conch shell then running around lighting all the torches. Shortly after, everyone is invited to the undigging of the pig, and then dinner. Dinner was followed by a show featuring hula dancers. The original Hula dancers were men. Women weren't allowed to Hula until later on in Hawaii's history. Don't worry...they sure figured it out without a problem.....oh yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!! The show was topped off by a performance of the world champion fire-knife juggler. I can't remember his name but there is a clip of him in action on this page.
